Digital Assets for Modern Family Offices
Yesterday, M/HQ, Re/think & ALTNOVEL co-hosted a closed-door roundtable in the ADGM, bringing together industry experts, financial institutions, and family offices to explore the evolving role of digital assets in modern portfolios.
Co-chaired by Hermione Harrison (M/HQ) and Stergios Voskopoulos (ALTNOVEL), the discussion was dynamic, candid, and rich with insight. One clear takeaway: while families are taking different approaches to digital assets, from short-term trading to long-term strategic allocation, education, structure, and strong governance must come first.
Key takeaways:
– There is a need for education before allocation
– Custody is a core challenge, but there are credible and sophisticated solutions available
– There is a need for regulatory clarity to boost confidence
– Eligibility controls on who can trade digital assets may protect less experienced investors
– ADGM and DIFC foundations are effective tools to hold digital assets and build internal controls into long-term succession planning
– Excluding digital assets entirely could be the greatest risk of all!
– Forensic audits for portfolio structuring and valuation are increasingly important
Thank you to all who joined us and actively contributed. We are excited to share further reflections in an upcoming op-ed.
